Hawkeye, gone but not forgotten

This is my latest drawing. It is of a Green Wing Macaw
that past away last month. May he fly free in the heavens.

This drawing flowed so nicely from start to finish and
was nothing but a pleasure to do. I really prefer to work
in plain pencil and I think it shows?

Judith wanted me to capture his goofy personality which I
think I did nicely? I love to draw a picture when the bird
is showing his/hers true personality.

Enjoy.... If you would like a drawing of your beloved bird

Home and healing :)

Well I made it through the surgery good but had a little set
back. I got sick from the pain pills they were giving me.
That was a rough 2 days let me tell you. I had tubes coming
out of everywhere and they tried to get me up and walk the
second day well that didn't go over to well. I was sick to
my tummy and dizzy in the head from the meds. Once they got
the pain meds worked out then I started to recover quicker.

It took 2 days to get through that By Saturday I was feeling
much better and was able to get up and walk around, by mid day
Saturday I talked them into removing the IV, Cath, the drain
on my wound oh and the oxygen as well as the special socks that
they pump air into to keep your legs moving so you don't get
blood clots in your legs.

Saturday I was cruising up and down the hallway :)

The first room I had I had a roommate which had at least 8 to 10
visitor's at all times in that room. Two nurses came in and said
under their breath were are going to save me and moved to my
own room :) from them on I had a private room :)

Nurses are very special people I had some great ones and I had
a couple OK ones but they all took pretty good care of me.

I came home Sunday to the delight of my hubby and my mother and
my Rott KoDee... They all missed me and as well as I missed them.

Came home to find all five amazons eggs had hatched. 3 are under their
mothers care and 2 are being fostered under a wonderful little Grey
hen that I have. Her eggs were clear and timed closely to the amazons
so I took a bit of a gamble and she hatched them and is doing a great
job with them. This I believe is her first experience being a mommy.
She has had 5 clutches of non-fertile eggs so I hope that raising some
babies she will now take a break? As well as getting valuable hands
on mommy experience :)

I have 1 fertile Grey egg in another nest which I'm really looking
forward to hatching? We will keep that Grey baby for a future breeder
when it hatches, and I hope to find a Grey baby from someone that will
want to trade a Blue front baby so I can make up a young pair of Grey's

I walk using a walker and a back brace. Just got the optional tennis balls
installed on the walker and I was really hoping for a bicycle horn because
I'm hoping to take this thing out into traffic and I want to be ready ;)
Jesse wants to put some mud flaps on it as well... lol

The pain is kinda over whelming at times but I think once I get some
meds built up in my system that will settle down a bit.

Again Mom and Jesse are taking great care of me as I can not do anything
right now and shouldn't be doing anything for a long while (Doc's orders)
I have been itching to draw some birds so I will as soon as I feel
comfortable sitting up? That is hard for me currently. I currently take
alot of naps which is always good... :)

Surgery count down

Well good morning it's Monday the 10th and my surgery (back fusion)
is on Weds the 12the to say the least I'm getting a bit nervous.

Trying to stay brave and be tough like I appear to be but it's not
working to well as I am a big baby.... LOL

We now have 3 baby amazons and one fertile Grey egg in the nest.
Our first fertile Grey egg so we are very excited about it. :) After
9 nests of clear eggs this is a special event. We will keep this baby
if all goes well and it hatches?

Got my studio cleaned up and ready so I can just go in and draw to
my hearts content :) It's also a nursery for the baby birds.

I will be off line for a while as I'm not sure when I will be able to
get back on line?

Thanks for reading and check back soon OK?

wish me luck... prayers are always welcome... thank you kindly :)

hugs...
Lynell

Lois and Clark

Just wanted to let you know that Lois and Clark my beautiful blue front amazons
are nesting now and currently have 4 eggs. When she had 3 eggs I quickly candled
them and found that they are fertile. Let me say that 2 eggs were in the very beginning stages of life. I think the 3rd egg hadn't developed enough to see with
a flash light? I use a small Mag light with a PVC coupler attached to the end of it
so it kinda helps direct the light into the egg so you can see better. :)

They normally have a great fertily rate. You can tell when eggs are fertile as they
seem to turn dark unlike a clear (unfertile) egg. While next to each other it's easy
to see after the egg has had sometime to grown. I'd say by day 10 of developement
you can see the difference.

Anyway I looking forward to babies again. :) will keep you posted :)

The above pic is of Lois with a preivous nest of babies. She is a wonderful mommy.

Surgrey update

Good morning all. I have been blessed with a OK by the insurance company to proceed
with my back fusion surgery. yeah!

We are looking at Aug 12th now. It will be a 3 to 5 day stay in the hospital for me and
will be a 4 to 6 month recovery time? For the first month or 2 bending over will be a big
NO NO... That will be the hardest thing not to do I think?

I'm looking forward to feeling better and back to my old self again. My Dr is the bomb and
he didn't give up when Blue Cross told us no. He fought for me and showed them the facts
in my case and got a approval for us. :) Dr. Adam Brant ROCKS!!!

Any who, asking for well wishes and prayers that all goes well and I have great results once
healed. :)

Thank you and have a wonderful day

Good afternoon everyone. I just wanted to share with you my newest creation that
I could not have been done without the help of my wonderful cousin Stephani Gorman. She has helped me to focus my skills and produce a product that I hope you all will enjoy and share with
your friends and family?
I spent sometime with her this past weekend and we really got a lot done, along with plenty of
catching up with each others lives and learning just how much we are alike. Two peas in a pod
is what I think we are... :)
Anyway here are a couple of pictures of the cards we had printed up this weekend hope you will

enjoy them?

Soon they will be offered for sale, still need to work out the details of that?

Color penciled African Grey

OK so here is my latest effort at a colored pencil piece. It's of a Grey of course :) Hope you enjoy it?
I am going to try watercolor pencils on a Grey? I just got a couple more of water color pencil today
and can't wait to try them? Maybe tonight?
Hey I'm going on a art retreat to the coast on Friday
woo hoo.... A art retreat at my cousin house for a few days playing with tools and drawing, I can't wait ;)
I have some other wild bird drawings I will share with you soon...

Day one...

I have had a love for birds ever since I can remember? Some 40+ yrs? Same with my talent
drawing, mom always said I started to draw as soon as I picked up and could hold a pencil.

So it's natural for me to draw the birds I love. My true love is hookbills but I'm fascinated by
all birds. I have had pigeons, finches, quail, parakeets, cockatiels, amazons, cockatoo's and a
Blue and Gold macaw that was and still is the smartest bird I had ever met.

I currently own no pet birds not by choice though, I just have my breeder birds. I have a great pair of Blue front amazons named Lois and Clark, they have given me lots of babies over the years. They have a nasty personality and would love to eat my face... Normal behavior for a pair of breeding amazons. They are beautiful Blue Fronts.

I have fallen in complete LOVE with my African Grey's. I have never had them before now
and I really just want to focus on them alone. They are amazing birds.... I can't wait to have
success with them and get to raise some baby Grey's? I started with 4 pairs ranging from wild caught birds to hand fed ex-pets to a little male hand fed but raised as a future breeder and was
not handled will he was young, but he likes a little head scratch through the bars now and then.

When I set up my pairs I gave them cute couples names like Mickey & Minnie, Will & Grace, Dharma & Greg and even Salt and Pepper. True to the current times all of my pairs have gotten a divorce for one reason or another? lol So now I have pairs like Minnie & Greg, and Will & Salt
and now Pepper and Dharma moved away but are now being rumoured to seeing each other??? They live at my friend Bobbie's place. I wish her the best of luck with them.

I currently only have 2 pairs set-up. With 2 singles one being a older wild caught female that is non-viable as a breeder. Oh and young Mickey that just needs to mature up a bit and hopefully
a wonderful female will come along and find him the answer to her dreams? I call him my
Woo BOY, because every time he sees me he says WOO woo... :)

I also hope to be able to provide a home for any misunderstood or un-wanted Grey's that are
currently in the wrong home? I hope to be able to rehabilitate those misunderstood birds and find them more understanding and loving homes? They are very special birds and I feel privileged to share my life and time with them. Can't wait until I can have one as a pet? :)

Grey's are proving to be a real challenge for me? They are trying but so far all we have had is
clutch after clutch of clear eggs... They will get it right, I hope? :)

After a 20 year break from drawing I have recently picked it up again and begun to draw birds
like I have never been able to before. It's a GOD given talent and it amazed me how easy it was
to start where I left off 20 yrs ago?

My goal is 2 fold. To be able to raise well adjusted fully fledged African Greys for companion birds for loving fully understanding bird owners, and to be able to draw beautiful pictures of peoples birds as well as the birds that interest me along the way?

Come share my love of birds and my love of drawing along with me? Thanks for coming by :)
